Use AI to structure a product comparison, not to invent a ranking. Supply exact model numbers and source material, mark unsupported specifications as unknown, and verify total checkout cost, compatibility, warranty, and return terms before buying.

A product comparison is only useful if it compares the right products. Similar names can hide different sizes, regional versions, accessories, or release generations. Begin with exact model numbers and your requirements rather than asking for “the best” item in a broad category.
For a substantial purchase, use AI to reduce the organizing work. The final evidence still comes from current manufacturer documents, seller terms, and relevant independent testing.
Write the requirements before the shortlist
Separate must-have features from preferences. For an illustrative appliance purchase, requirements might be a maximum width, a compatible power supply, and an accessible filter. A color preference belongs in another column. A product that fails a required dimension should not win because it has attractive reviews.
Include the budget basis: item only, or delivery, installation, accessories, and first-year consumables. State the country and seller region so warranties and specifications are not silently mixed.

If browsing is available, require the exact page and model. If it is not, paste short relevant extracts rather than asking the assistant to remember the current catalog. NIST’s AI risk profile explains why generated information needs verification.
Inspect the evidence table
| Claim | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Fits the space | Actual dimensions, clearance, and installation requirements |
| Includes accessories | Contents of the specific seller’s package |
| Works with your device | Model and version compatibility |
| Costs less | Checkout total and required ongoing costs |
| Easy to return | Time limit, condition, shipping, and restocking terms |
A source link is useful only when the page supports the specific value. Watch for a page describing an entire family while the table assigns every feature to the cheapest version.
Compare total cost with explicit assumptions
Suppose A costs $180 plus $40 a year in supplies, while B costs $220 plus $15 a year. Over three years, simple totals are $300 and $265, assuming unchanged supply costs and no other expenses. This invented example shows why sticker price alone can mislead; it does not establish product quality or lifespan.
Keep uncertain costs as a range or a missing item. Do not use an invented maintenance estimate to manufacture a winner.
Check the seller before payment
FTC online-shopping guidance recommends checking sellers, total costs, reviews, and return terms. A comparison service may rank only participating sellers, and a high star rating is not proof of reliability.
Save the product page, checkout total, delivery promise, and return policy. Decide yourself whether the extra features solve a real need. Use the marketplace comparison guide for seller and platform responsibilities, and the AI household-admin workflow to track a return deadline after purchase.

Frequently asked questions
Can AI tell me the current lowest price without browsing?
No. Use current seller pages and the actual checkout, including fees and delivery.
Is an AI ranking proof that products were tested?
No. Ask what evidence supports the ranking and distinguish specifications from hands-on testing.
